On the morning of June 24, 2015, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs coordinated with the Secretariat of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) and the Việt Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) to organise a conference in Hà Nội, titled “Việt Nam APEC Year 2017: Towards a dynamic, self-reliant and cohesive APEC community.” This is the first large-scale international conference to discuss the meaning of and prepare for the hosting of the 25th Summit and activities of the APEC Forum in Việt Nam in 2017.
On March 3, 2016, in Hà Nội, the Department of Fine Arts, Photography and Exhibition (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) launched a contest to create the Việt Nam APEC 2017 logo model. The logo that won first prize would be used as the official logo of APEC 2017, and in all activities related to APEC in Việt Nam.
On the afternoon of April 13, 2016, at the government office, the fourth meeting of the 2017 APEC National Committee took place under the chairmanship of Deputy Prime Minister, Phạm Bình Minh, Chairman of the National Committee, and was attended by representatives of 24 agencies and municipalities as members of the National Committee.
On November 18, 2016, at the Lima Convention Centre in Peru, the 28th APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting entered its second working day.
The Informal Senior Officials’ Meeting (ISOM) and related meetings were held on December 8 and 9 at the National Convention Center in Hà Nội. It was the first event of APEC 2017 hosted by Việt Nam.
On January 6, the People's Committee of Đà Nẵng City organized a competition to design and produce tourist souvenirs and gifts for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) 2017. The contest was organized to promote the city’s image and introduce Đà Nẵng’s characteristics to international friends, especially in the Asia-Pacific region.
On January 16 afternoon, in Hà Nội, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism held a ceremony to award the winning design for the APEC Việt Nam 2017 logo. At the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Huỳnh Vĩnh Ái, and Deputy Head of the Media and Culture Subcommittee of the APEC 2017 National Committee, presented the first prize worth VNĐ30 million to the MB2017/3 design by a group of authors under the company Mark & B. The chosen design depicted a centred set of patterns, stylized from the images of rowing oars and Lạc birds on the traditional Vietnamese Đông Sơn bronze drums, with 21 rays of convergent and diffused sun light, stylized as seven Lạc birds to represent the 21 APEC member economies.
Since January 1, 2017, Việt Nam officially assumed the host role for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) activities in 2017. After nearly two decades of participating in APEC, this is the second time Việt Nam has been honoured with this mission. It is also a great opportunity for Việt Nam to strengthen its relationship with its regional partners, to contribute to the common interests of the Asia-Pacific region and to enhance its role and position in the international arena.
In preparation for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC) 2017, on February 14, in Hội An City, Quảng Nam Province coordinated with the mission of the Ministry of Public Security to inspect and review the preparation for APEC Year 2017, with the aim of ensuring absolute safety for activities that would take place in the area.
From February 18 to March 3, the First Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM 1) of APEC and related meetings took place in Nha Trang City of the southern Khánh Hòa Province. The meetings bore a significant meaning as they kicked off the year-long APEC Viet Nam 2017 event and jumpstarted the preparation process for the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week (AELW) that would be held in November in the central Đà Nẵng city. About 1900 delegates from 21 member economies of APEC, the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC), the Pacific Economic Cooperation Council (PECC) and international and regional organisations would be joining the SOMs and 56 meetings of four committees and 34 working groups.
On February 20, a meeting of the Expert Group on Illegal Logging and Associated Trade (EGILAT) took place in Nha Trang City of the southern Khánh Hòa province, in preparation for SOM 1. The meeting aimed at increasing forest protection and sustainable development of forest resources, combating illegal trade and deforestation, and enhancing the capacity of APEC member economies on the legal timber trade.
From February 21 to 23, the General Department of Vietnam Customs hosted the first official meeting of the Sub-Committee on Customs Procedures (SCCP) in Nha Trang City of the southern Khánh Hòa province. More than 50 delegates representing customs departments of APEC member economies joined the meeting. The event was part of the agenda of SOM 1.
On February 23, the APEC Finance and Central Bank Deputies’ Meeting took place in Nha Trang City of the southern Khánh Hòa Province in preparation for SOM 1. This two-day meeting on February 23 and 24 marked the beginning of the APEC 2017 Finance Ministers' Process.
On February 25, in Nha Trang City of the southern Khánh Hòa Province, meetings of nine committees and working groups were held in order to prepare for SOM 1. It included the Committee on Trade and Investment (CTI), Economic Committee (EC), Policy Partnership on Food Security (PPFS) and Ocean and Fisheries Working Group (OFWG), as well as Tourism Working Group (TWG), Electronic Commerce Steering Group (ECSG), Alliance on Supply Chain Connectivity (A2C2), Competition Policy and Law Group (CPLG) and Market Access Group (MAG).
On February 26, two plenary sessions of the APEC committees and working groups took place in Nha Trang City of the southern Khánh Hòa Province as part of the preparation for SOM 1 and related meetings.
On March 1, the 12th working day of the committees, the Friends of the Chair (FOTC), and the Policy Support Unit (PSU) began in Nha Trang City of the southern Khánh Hòa Province part of the preparation for SOM 1 and related meetings that would take place on March 2-3.
On March 1, in Nha Trang City of the southern Khánh Hòa Province, all preparatory activities for SOM 1 at the committee-level were completed, including the final meetings of the SOM Steering Committee on ECOTECH (SCE), the Friends of the Chair (FOTC) on Connectivity and the Policy Support Unit (PSU).
On March 2, SOM 1 of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation 2017 began in Nha Trang City of the southern Khánh Hòa Province with the participation of about 200 high-level delegations from 21 APEC member economies, the Pacific Economic Cooperation Council (PECC) and the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAB).
SOM 1 of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation 2017 and related meetings, held in Nha Trang City of the southern Khánh Hòa Province in 14 days (February 18 - March 3, 2017), ended with great success.
On April 11 in Hà Nội, Audi Việt Nam handed over the first fleet of 131 cars out of a total of 317 units to the APEC 2017 National Committee.
On April 18, President Trần Đại Quang and his delegation visited and checked the preparation at several facilities for the APEC 2017 Summit in Đà Nẵng City.
Vi Kiến Thành, Director of the Department of Fine Arts, Photography and Exhibition, under the Ministry of Culture, Sport and Tourism, said that the department had submitted four costume designs to the APEC 2017 National Committee to be considered as uniforms designs for economic leaders attending APEC 2017. These will be the costumes worn by senior leaders from 21 APEC member economies during a number of activities such as official photography, ceremonial, cultural and diplomatic activities at APEC 2017.
In order to ensure traffic order and safety for the second APEC Senior Officials Meeting (SOM II) held from May 9 to 22, the Hà Nội Police Department announced adjustments of traffic flows and directions for all vehicles in the capital city.
On May 9, the first preparatory working for the Second Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM 2) of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) 2017 started in Hà Nội.
On May 11, in Hà Nội, representing Việt Nam, the Ministry of Science and Technology participated in the Policy Partnership on Science, Technology and Innovation (PPSTI-10) as part of the preparation for SOM 2 of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) 2017.
On May 12, in Hà Nội, the fourth preparatory working day for SOM 2 began. The APEC Study Centers Consortium Conference (ASCC) was launched, as well as the Committee on Trade and Investment Meeting (CTI) and the Sub-Committee on Standards and Conformance (SCSC).
On May 14, important meetings were held to prepare for SOM Hà Nội, including a plenary session of the Human Resources Development Working Group (HRDWG).
On the morning of May 14, in Hà Nội, the Dialogue on Sustainable Urbanisation, organised by the Friends of the Chair (FOTC), took place as part of the preparation for SOM 2 of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) 2017.

On the morning of May 20, Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc gave a speech at the opening ceremony of the 23rd meeting of APEC Ministers Responsible for Trade (MRT) at the Việt Nam National Convention Centre in Hà Nội. The Ministers Responsible for Trade and high-level delegates of the 21 APEC member economies attended the event. It was one of the eight most important meetings of the Sectoral Ministerial Bodies in Việt Nam APEC Year 2017.
On the afternoon of May 21, right after the completion of the 23rd Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Ministers Responsible for Trade (MRT23), Minister of Industry and Trade Trần Tuấn Anh, chairman of MTRT23, chaired a press conference announcing the conclusions of the MRT23 discussions.
On May 21 in Hà Nội, ministers and deputy ministers from Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Canada and Chile, as well as Japan, New Zealand, Malaysia and Peru, along with Singapore and Việt Nam, met to discuss the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) on the margins of the 23rd Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Ministers Responsible for Trade (MRT23).
On June 1 in Đà Nẵng City, the city’s Department of Industry and Trade finalised the design competition for tourist souvenirs and gifts for APEC 2017. Based on the Board of Examiners’ evaluations, the organising committee decided to select 20 winning products, including one first prize, two second prizes, three third prizes and 12 consolation prizes. The first prize went to the "Heart-Mind" Ceramic Pottery design by the Bộ Trại Ceramics Limited Liability Company, address No. 10 Giang Cao, Bát Tràng, Gia Lâm, Hà Nội.
In order to ensure electricity supply to meet the demand during APEC 2017, the Đà Nẵng Power Company Limited has put into operation the Hòa Liên 110kV transformer station and the Hòa Xuân 110kV, and at the same time, completed upgrading capacity for two 110kV transformer stations of An Đồn from (2x25) MVA to (25+63) MVA and Xuân Hà from (2x40) MVA to (40 + 63) MVA, as well as the 22kV power line for the Bà Nà area. The company would continue to strive to complete the power supply facilities for APEC 2017 on schedule before July 31, 2017.
The APEC High-Level Policy Dialogue on Sustainable Tourism was officially launched on the morning of June 19 in Hạ Long City in coastal Quảng Ninh Province.
On June 22 in Hà Nội, the APEC National Committee held its eighth plenary meeting. Deputy PM and Chairman of APEC National Committee 2017, Phạm Bình Minh, chaired the meeting, attended by leaders from 24 ministries, agencies and cities and members of the Committee. President Trần Đại Quang attended athe meeting nd asked that the activities to be held during the APEC 2017 Summit should bear the impression of Việt Nam, contributing to strengthening Việt Nam's prestige while pushing forward regional economy linkages and deepening the relationship between country members.

The ninth working day of the 3rd APEC Senior Officials Meeting (SOM3) and relevant meetings of the APEC Forum in Ho Chi Minh City took place with many important economic issues such as developing small and medium enterprises in the logistics sector or enhancing cooperation towards the Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific (FTAAP) discussed.

After two days, the 3rd Senior Officials Meeting (SOM 3) and related meetings closed on August 30 in Ho Chi Minh City. On the last working day, participants at the meeting chaired by Standing Deputy Foreign Minister of Viet Nam Bui Thanh Son, SOM APEC 2017 chairman, spent a lot of time discussing issues of economic, financial and social development.
During the APEC 2017 Ministerial Meeting Week on Small and Medium Enterprises on September 11 in Ho Chi Minh City, the forum on "Improving access to finance in the digital age for small and medium enterprises” was held with the participation of some 100 delegates from APEC member economies, financial and banking experts, and many financial institutions.
Within the framework of the APEC 2017 Ministerial Meeting Week on Small and Medium Enterprises and related meetings, on September 12, a conference on Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises' (MSME) access to digital economy took place in Ho Chi Minh City.
In opening remarks at the 45th SME Working Group within the framework of the APEC 2017 Ministerial Meeting Week on Small and Medium Enterprises, held on September 13 in Ho Chi Minh City, Dang Huy Dong, deputy minister of planning and investment, emphasised that APEC member economies have developed into a dynamic internationally integrating region with many innovative products and services, bringing great added value and high efficiency.
After the first batch of cars with 131 cars in Hanoi in April, the second batch of 258 vehicles continued to be delivered by Audi Việt Nam to the APEC 2017 National Committee for the APEC 2017 event in Da Nang.
Continuing the activities of the APEC Year 2017, Politburo Member, President Trần Đại Quang had a meeting with heads of the APEC National Committee 2017, the Government Office, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and related agencies on the preparations for the APEC 2017 Summit. President Trần Đại Quang affirmed that the organization of the APEC 2017 Year is a key focus until 2020 and is a priority in Việt Nam's strategy for implementing in depth and comprehensive international integration, and enhancing the effectiveness of multilateral foreign relations. In order to ensure the successful organization of the 2017 APEC Summit, preparation and organization must align with the established objectives, requirements and guidelines.
Soon the morning of September 15, in Ho Chi Minh City, the 24th APEC Small and Medium Enterprises Ministerial Meeting (SMEMM 24), titled "Enhancing Competitiveness, Innovation of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in the digital age," opened with the attendance of Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, APEC economic ministers and economic experts from international organisations.

Renovation of the Đà Nẵng Exhibition Centre into a media centre for the 2017 APEC Summit had been completed. As such, the building would have the capacity for service including the ground floor, reception hall, security room, medical room, card room, reporters quarter, booth for news agencies, multi-function room, central control room, large conference room, service room and other auxiliary areas, with a total project investment of approximately 179 billion VNĐ.
Under the framework of the activities of the APEC Forum in Viet Nam in 2017, the 11th APEC Senior Officials Meeting on Disaster Management opened in Vinh City in the central province of Nghe An.
After two days of working, the 11th APEC Senior Officials Meeting on Disaster Management ended on September 22. On September 29, the APEC 2017 Women and Economy Forum closed after four working days (September 26-29). The forum attracted 700 delegates from 19 of 21 APEC economies, including ministers, heads of delegations, leaders of government agencies, international organisations, enterprises and experts.
From September 30 to October 1, in Đà Nẵng City, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Phạm Bình Minh and Chairman of the 2017 APEC National Committee, presided over the review of the activities of the 2017 APEC Summit Week. As of now, preparation and facilities at all hotels, convention centres, international press centres and other major venues hosting official and party events during the 2017 APEC Summit had basically been completed on time and as required.

In addition to continuing completing the rest of the infrastructure, Đà Nẵng would be focusing on creating a clean and beautiful landscape for the 2017 APEC Summit.
On October 4, the Đà Nẵng Fire Police Department held a 45-day peak offensive to ensure fire prevention safety and rescue to prepare for the 2017 APEC Summit. The units firmly grasped the situation, took the initiative in preventing, detecting and fighting fire in time against any planned conspiracy, operation, disturbance, or sabotage causing fire and explosion at the venues. Administrative units focused on effective implementation of the fire department’s inspection protection and rescue plan to ensure absolute security and fire safety in the city before and during the APEC Summit.
As a special partner and the official carrier of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in Việt Nam, Việt Nam Airlines had launched a plan to increase the capacity serving APEC and to meet the increasing demand of passengers during the period from October 5 to November 13. Accordingly, Việt Nam Airlines will expand operations by adding 110 flights, equivalent to more than 20,000 seats, on the route between Hà Nội / HCM City and Đà Nẵng, bringing the total chair supply to nearly 400,000 seats.
From October 5 to 6, 2017, the 2017 APEC National Committee welcomed more than 250 representatives of 20 APEC member economies and observed organizations participating in the last scouting programme for the preparation for the 2017 APEC Summit. During the general breifing, leaders of the standing bodies of subcommittees: Reception, Media and Culture, Security and Health, Logistics and the 2017 APEC National Secretariat of the 2017 APEC National Committee, had updated the overall information on the programme, operational scenarios, reception and security, as well as media practices and communications, and other related information regarding the 2017 APEC summit. The organizing Committee confirmed that the organization was basically completed, ready to welcome and create the best conditions for delegations attending the 2017 APEC Summit.
Senior Lieutenant Colonel Lê Văn Lực, Deputy Head of the traffic police and police department of Đà Nẵng City, said that about 1,750 police officers, soldiers, other forces and militia had been mobilized at 553 traffic control booths during the 2017 APEC Summit. In addition to leading the delegation by the Traffic Police Department under the Ministry of Public Security, the Đà Nẵng Traffic Police Department had their own plans to separate traffic, including a 24/24 ban on motorbikes and cars parking (except buses, security vehicles, or vehicles controlled by APEC) during the period from November 1 to 15 on all inner city roads.
The APEC Summit in Đà Nẵng City in November will be the most important external event for Đà Nẵng as well as for Việt Nam in 2017. As the host locality, besides ensuring the best facilities, Đà Nẵng City must select the best volunteers for this important event. There were nearly 2,000 applications submitted directly and through online channels, nearly 900 candidates who passed the prequalification between the age of 18 and 25 years attended the interview held by the City’s Department of Foreign Affairs, in order to select 260 volunteers to participate in the activities hosted by the Việt Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, within the framework of the 2017 APEC Summit in Đà Nẵng.
According to the Đà Nẵng City People's Committee, the city had been concentrating all its resources to complete the preparatory work for the 2017 APEC Summit to be held in Đà Nẵng in November, focusing on facilities, urban refurbishment, security-health, media, etc. The Đà Nẵng City People's Committee assigned the Đà Nẵng Department of Construction to co-ordinate with the City Police, Department of Tourism, Department of Health, and the Fire Police Department in order to review, inspect, permit and certify the levels of requirements for services, fire prevention, food safety and hygiene for any renovated or newly invested facilities in preparation for the 2017 APEC Summit, to be completed before October 20.
On the morning of October 11, in Hà Nội, the Traffic Police Department held a military launching ceremony to ensure traffic safety and social order for the 2017 APEC Summit. With the highest determination to successfully defend the 2017 APEC Summit, nearly 900 national police officers were put into action, along with thousands of cars, motorcycles, tools and supporting equipment to participate in protecting the 2017 APEC Summit in Đà Nẵng City. The vehicles used during the events were among the most modern units used by the national traffic police force.
