Việt Nam has become the centre of close attention on the part of the leading economies of the Asia-Pacific region due to the increasing role of the country in the international arena and a number of interrelated reasons.

Among them is Việt Nam’s desire to become an active participant in regional affairs in an effort to promote economic integration, which is necessary for the country to achieve optimal growth and attract foreign investments.

Việt Nam is a member of many international organisations, a participant of various integration summits and forums, and a signatory of several free trade agreements. The country is open to new initiatives, particularly the idea to revive the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement proposed by Japan.

The Russian expert pointed out that major tasks for the country are to attract foreign investment and ensure energy and food security. Việt Nam has used its chairmanship to call for more investments into the economy.

In the near future, experts expect new agreements between Vietnamese businesses and regional investors in the fields of trade, infrastructure, energy and technology.

In 2006, Việt Nam successfully hosted the 14th APEC Summit, which was said to contribute to Việt Nam’s speeding up the World Trade Organisation’s integration and to improving its relationship with the United States.

The successful hosting of the APEC 2017 Economic Leaders’ Meeting will further promote the country’s image in the international arena.
